Chris Child, Lecturer; and Computer Game Company Director, Childish Things Ltd

Famed for developing the International Cricket Captain game series (1 million copies sold), Chris Child has been working in the gaming industry for over ten years. After time at Empire and Logica CMG he now runs his own computer game company ‘Childish Things Ltd’ where he’s involved in every stage of computer game production from game design, game programming, motion capture, writing manuals, right through to advertising and marketing. Yet it doesn’t stop there for Chris, he can also be found developing the next generation of computer game designers in City University London’s School of Informatics, where he lectures on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in computer games technology.

Chris says: The video games industry is a booming sector - last year (2007) we experienced record-breaking sales, generating more revenue than the film industry and we look set to overtake the music industry this year. New consoles and accessible genres made gaming into a main-stream social activity for all ages, creating off-the-charts consumer demand, and boosting innovation. Describing it as ‘exciting’ to work behind the scenes is somewhat of an understatement.”

Gaming graduates can look forward to an exciting career in a number of professional roles in the computer games industry including graphics programmer; audio programmer; physics programmer; artificial intelligence programmer; game engine programmer and game designer. City University London offers courses that can be studied on a full or part-time basis and students are also given the option to boost their CV with six months industry experience through City's unique internship option.
