MSc in Geographic Information Management
Course structure

The course is available full time (12 months), part time (up to 28 months; daytime study), by distance learning using the internet, or by a flexible mode of study.

Each module is delivered over a 12 week period, either from October-December or January-April. For distance students, material is released on a weekly basis during those 12 week periods. For face-to-face students, attendance is expected in one 3-hour session per module per week.

While distance students are not required to ever attend in person at City, those who can get to London can optionally take part in face-to-face activities (eg fieldwork, GI Club, tutorial sessions etc).

Students successfully completing eight modules and the dissertation will be awarded 180 credits and a masters level qualification. Alternatively, students who do not complete the dissertation but have successfully completed eight modules will be awarded 120 credits and a postgraduate diploma. Successful completion of four modules (60 credits) will lead to the award of a postgraduate certificate.

Each module is assessed through a combination of coursework and examination. Coursework would normally be expected to be completed after the completion of module teaching. Examinations are taken following the teaching period in which a module is delivered (either January or May). Support is provided for all forms of assessment such as mock examinations, group tutorial support, online discussion, sample and model answers etc.
