MSc in Information Science
Career benefits

The information science programme is stimulating and aims to produce graduates who will be future leaders in the information industry. As an information science student at City you will develop a range of skills, knowledge and attitudes that will lay the foundations of your future professional career.

The programme is taught by staff with professional experience. Research and consultancy, often commissioned by the information industry, keeps staff in touch with professional practice and you will also have the opportunity to hear contributions and learn from visiting practitioners.

You will learn about the complexities of information services in an increasingly digital environment and develop highly marketable skills in the organisation, management and retrieval of information using modern tools. You will gain an advanced understanding of the principles of information science and how these need to inform the design, implementation and evaluation of information services. Throughout your time at City, you will be encouraged to reflect on what it means to be an information professional and to think about your role against the wider context of the legal, ethical and social responsibilities that such work increasingly entails.

The programme also develops valuable information technology, teamwork and communication skills. As an information scientist you will need to develop the ability to analyse information critically and be able to carry out research and evaluation projects on your own, skills which are becoming critical to continuing professional development.

You will also be well prepared to undertake further academic research or to pursue a higher degree.
