Overview

The course equips students with the professional skills and theoretical understanding essential to modern librarianship and information-service delivery.

You will develop the in-depth knowledge of library and information services essential in a profession revitalised by the digital transition of recent years, and high-level skills in the organisation, management and retrieval of information using modern tools.

You will gain an advanced understanding of the principles of information science and how these inform the design, implementation and evaluation of library and information services. Students will be encouraged to reflect on the role of the information professional against the wider context of the legal, ethical and social responsibilities that such work increasingly entails.

The course will develop your ability to analyse information critically and to undertake independent research and evaluation projects. You will also gain valuable skills in information technology, teamwork and communication. The course is also excellent preparation for doctoral (PhD) study.
