MA / MSc in Library Science
Career benefits
The programme aims to produce the next generation of leaders in the library profession. It is taught by experienced staff with professional experience. Research and consultancy, often commissioned by the library community, keeps staff in touch and you will also have the opportunity to hear contributions and learn from visiting practitioners.
You will learn about the complexities of library provision in an increasingly digital environment and develop highly marketable skills in the organization and management of information using modern tools. Throughout your time at City, you will be encouraged to reflect on what it means to be an information professional and to think about your role against the wider context of the legal, ethical and social responsibilities that such work increasingly entails.
The programme also develops valuable IT, teamworking and communication skills. As a professional librarian you will need to develop the ability to analyse information critically and be able to carry out research and evaluation projects on your own behalf, skills which are becoming critical to continuing professional development. You will also be well prepared to undertake further academic research or to pursue a higher degree.
