Earn while you learn: Placements and the Professional Pathway

I completed an Industrial Placement in the Information Management department of British Airways as part of my degree at City University. The placement allowed me to apply the skills I developed at City to real-life situations in a commercial environment. This industrial experience has definitely helped me to secure permanent employment after graduating. And of course I got paid for it!

As a computing student at City you will have an outstanding opportunity to gain practical experience alongside your studies. Our placement scheme gives you the chance to see for yourself how the technologies you are learning about are being used in organisations. A placement will let you develop your technical skills and business knowledge. It will also help you understand the IT industry and learn about the different career paths available.

By taking a placement you will be paid and your career prospects will be significantly improved. You would typically be paid between £14-22,000 per year while on placement, and in some exceptional cases substantially more. You can also expect to gain marketable skills, achieve better marks in your degree and in many cases have a job offer from your placement employer before you graduate.

We offer two types of placement: a one-year placement and our innovative Professional Pathway scheme, which enables you to combine placement employment (and earnings) with your studies.
