What does the Professional Pathway involve?

The Professional Pathway scheme provides you with relevant work experience alongside your study. After completing your Part I studies full-time you will be able to apply for the Pathway scheme. To be eligible, you need to have performed well in the first year of the course, seeking approval from the Pathway Mode Tutor. You can join the scheme after your first year or later. The Pathway scheme offers the opportunity to receive substantial employment experience (and earnings)during your studies.

Professional Pathway placements are for up to four days per week. Employers can opt to employ a Professional Pathway student for a fixed limited period, typically 12 months, or they can benefit from your contribution on a continuing basis for the full three years of the programme and beyond. Some employers choose to start with a fixed-term placement and convert it to continuing employment relationship once you have proved your value.

As a Professional Pathway student you take the same degree content and exams as full-time students, but at a slower rate. You will attend the University for one day per week, for 45 weeks of the year. You will generally attend lectures and most other programme components with full-time students. The Professional Pathway takes four years in total, the same time as a degree with a one-year placement.

Employers will ensure you are available for the designated one day per week you are required to attend City. Professional Pathway employers recognise that you need to study in the evenings and at weekends (about nine hours per week).
